Faraway began in Istanbul in 2019 from a love of beautiful clothes, treasures from the past, faraway places and the stories we carry with us.

We make clothes we want to keep. Romantic pieces inspired by things from another time, reimagined for how we live today. A Victorian sleeve, an old prairie dress, an Anatolian silhouette or a piece of vintage embroidery might be where something begins. We are less interested in what is new than in what feels as though it could have always existed.

Each collection starts with a world we want to explore. From there come the colours, prints and clothes. Our founder, Ayşe, designs the collections and creates most of our prints in-house, sometimes working alongside artists whose work we love. Every piece is then developed, sampled and made in Istanbul.

Natural materials are at the heart of what we make. With the exception of our swimwear, almost everything we create is made from natural fibres, with organic cotton, linen, silk and wool among those we return to again and again. We love the way they feel against the body and the histories they carry, but also the simple idea that our bodies are part of nature too, and that what we put against them matters.

But we don't want to make something just because it's pretty.

Colour, symbols and stones have carried meaning for people for thousands of years, and they have become part of Faraway's language too. Roses for love, pomegranates for abundance, colours connected to different energies, gemstones chosen for what they have traditionally represented. Sometimes the meaning is visible and sometimes it is hidden, like a piece of clear quartz set into the sole of a shoe.

We don't think these things give you something you don't already have. We think of them as little reminders.

A reminder of love. Of abundance. Of strength. Of our connection to the earth, to each other, to the whole and to Source. Of whatever it is we might have forgotten for a moment.

The clothes come first. You never need to know the story to fall in love with a Faraway piece. But if you look a little closer, there is usually something more to discover.

Faraway is made in Istanbul in small quantities, often only around 40 or 50 pieces of a style. We work with a network of local pattern makers, ateliers and specialist producers, some of whom have been making our clothes with us since the very beginning.

We make slowly, change things until they feel right, and return to the shapes we love in new fabrics, colours and prints rather than making the same thing over and over again.
